Brooke and Larissa Lead a Powerful Hygiene Drive

What happens when two passionate students take action? Big things.

Brooke and Larissa, Master of Social Work students at the University of Connecticut, recently reached out to CareKit Community with a simple but powerful idea. They wanted to host a hygiene drive to support individuals in need across Hartford.

Brooke contacted us on a Thursday. By the weekend, their idea had already taken off.

Through a single Facebook post and personal outreach to their friends and family, Brooke and Larissa rallied their community in just a few days.

The response was overwhelming. That weekend alone, they collected more than 700 hygiene products. These essential items may seem small, but they have a tremendous impact on a person's dignity and health.

Later that week, with help from Brooke’s grandmother, they assembled 122 CareKits. Each kit was carefully packed with compassion and purpose. These kits are now ready to support those in need in Hartford, reminding them that they are seen, valued, and cared for.

We are incredibly grateful to Brooke, Larissa, and everyone who supported their drive. Your leadership and kindness not only made a tangible impact but also helped raise awareness about hygiene insecurity. Your work shows what it means to lead with heart and community spirit.

Thank you for helping us continue to care for others, one CareKit at a time.
