This half acre property at the corner of Shore Road and Old Harbor Rd has been the focus of staff restoration efforts since 2010, by which time the three invasive tree species and invasive vines had become widely established on the property. By 2016, the majority of the invasive trees were removed and the Old Harbor Road side of the property was being mowed to keep sprouting invasives down. In 2021, we took a leap forward, hiring a mini excavator to clear a large section of privet and scrape up invasive ground cover. This area was seeded into native grasses and the next year over 70 plants were added to the area including inkberry, bayberry, witch hazel, viburnum, and hazelnuts, among others. Since then, we have continued to clear invasive ground cover, vines, and shrubs in stages and to replace them with native grasses, shrubs, and trees.
